Mine Warfare Systems

The sea mine is a particularly insidious danger and, as a weapon that can be manufactured at low cost, represents a constant threat to worldwide shipping and free trade. The capability for deploying mine countermeasures is therefore one of the key tasks of modern navies.

The mine warfare systems made by ATLAS ELEKTRONIK permit the detection and destruction of mines and abandoned munitions at low risk to the ship and crew. For over four decades, we have been setting the standard worldwide in this field. Besides the German Navy, more than ten navies around the globe are deploying mine warfare systems made by ATLAS ELEKTRONIK.

The Integrated Mine Countermeasures System (IMCMS) is one of the most modern and effective of its kind. With the aid of several sensor systems and remote-controlled or autonomous surface and underwater vehicles, it combines a number of mine countermeasures methods to achieve effective neutralization of diverse types of mines.
In mine warfare, ATLAS ELEKTRONIK relies on the advantages offered by autonomous platforms. Unmanned underwater vehicles are able to identify and destroy ground and tethered mines without endangering the ship or its crew. The ATLAS ELEKTRONIK SeaFox system is based on the “throw-away” principle. After the reusable SeaFox I has identified the sea mine, the expendable SeaFox C with its integrated warhead serves as intelligent ammunition for mine neutralization.

To give ships operating within the scope of foreign missions at least an initial capability for mine countermeasures, ATLAS ELEKTRONIK is currently developing a mobile variant of the IMCMS. This can then be carried on board, for example in containers, to protect the safety of personnel and material.
